Inspiron 1525 XP drivers

In case you you don't have the correct drivers, use this link:

http://www.video.delta341.server4you.de/Inspiron1525_XP_Drivers.rar

careful -> it is about 200MB and contains all XP drivers for 1525Dell Inspiron

You find a scan from the device manager as pdf file and I unpacked the HDMI driver - easy now to install this thing manually (don't use the setup.exe) can be found in
\Inspiron1525\Drivers\HDMI_Driver\HDMI\

The camera and the touchpad drivers may still be missing. You can use the vista version of the camera and the touchpad drivers. They work for XP as well.

Touchpad drivers are here:

Disable User Account Control UAC

Some of you might be tempted to disable UAC because of the additional mouse clicking it brings into the system, however Microsoft DOES NOT RECOMMEND disabling it. So try to get used to it instead. But if you don want to get rid of it temporarily for say installing a program without 'disturbance' you can do so in the following ways:

Method #1 - Using MSCONFIG

1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAP" (this should probably change to UAC in next Vista beta builds and in the RTM version). Click on that line.

3. Press the Launch button.
4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Note that you can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAP" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

Method #2 - Using Regedit

1. Open Registry Editor.
2. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

3. Locate the following value (DWORD):

EnableLUA

and give it a value of 0.

Note: As always, before making changes to your registry you should always make sure you have a valid backup. In cases where you're supposed to delete or modify keys or values from the registry it is possible to first export that key or value(s) to a .REG file before performing the changes.

4. Close Registry Editor. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
In order to re-enable UAC just change the above value to 1.

There are more ways like using the Group policy or the control panel, but I fee the methods above are easier.

Bypass Vista logon screen

First, we'll need to get to the Advanced User Accounts Control Panel to get to this setting. I think there's a registry tweak as well, but that seems like too much work.

Type in netplwiz into the start menu search box, hit enter, and you'll see this screen:

Uncheck the box that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer", and then hit Apply. You'll see a username and password box. Enter in the appropriate information here and hit OK:

How to burn a CD in XP

First, you need to tell Windows what files you want copied to CD. You can do this in a couple of different ways:

Right-click the file you want to copy, then select Send To, CD-R (or whatever your CD writer is called).

Of course, you can use your CTRL key to select multiple files then send the whole mess to the CD burner.

When you do this Send To thing, you'll get a cute little "balloon" from your system tray telling you that the files have been added to your recording list. Click that little balloon and you'll open the list.

Click the Write these files to CD link and it will start Windows CD burning wizard. From there, just follow the prompts.

Note that if you accidentally stick a file on the list that you don't want on CD, you can remove it by right-clicking the file and selecting Delete. Don't worry, it won't delete the file from your computer, just from the CD writing list.

During the actual CD writing process, it's best not to mess with your computer. Just stand 4-6 feet away and let it write the CD.

DVD Decoder Error

Ever got the error for DVD decoders?

Well all you need to do is download codecs for it.
Difference between codecs and players (Codecs vs player)

According to wikipedia "A codec is a device or program capable of performing encoding and decoding on a digital data stream or signal."

What it does is add more functions to your current windows media player to be able to play more formats. In case you have recently reinstalled windows and are getting an error for the DVD decoder, you can go ahead and download it from the following website
xpcodecpack.com

However, if you would like a better player altogether, I would suggest my favorite
The vlc player.

Then there are those that still have a liitttle bit of better quality than the VLC. The quality cn be scebe during the dark scenes. When everything is black in the background, you will see a better on the
DIVX player.
